When Life is Distracting

I hate the question are you a working mom? Like there is any other type?! But somehow, being a ‘working mother’ is tightrope walk we women seem to dare. Some of us do work for a paycheck and some of us wind up volunteering for work-like projects of all sorts.

Balance they tell me is the key to success, but I am not sure how to balance any of it. However,  I do know I can do this one thing. I can try to be all there. When I am home - I can try to be really present, really listen. When I am out working on a project, I must be all in. This way I do not spend my home hours thinking about the work and my work hours pining for more home time. Never fully happy, never fully anywhere. That is certainly a recipe for an unhealthy life!

Allow me to share a favorite quote of mine. It was penned by Jim Elliot, husband of the missionary Elizabeth Elliot. He said: “Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God.”

Whatever your work today, Mom, be all there.
