Happy Independence Day
We Americans love independence.
It is a bittersweet reality for Mom, though.
Britain, our Mother Country, certainly doesn’t set off red-white-and-blue fireworks this month. But we can.
As our kids learn everyday to be more their own and less needy, we can celebrate that growth. We can be teaching them so many skills and rejoice with them over their mastery. Our toddlers and our teens especially will fight tooth and nail to show they can do things on their own. Sometimes that truth hurts, But in the end, that is the point. We succeed if they can be the amazing individuals they were born to be.
Go ahead, Mom! Try to work yourself out of a job. It’s ok. You will always be needed, just in different ways.
