What on earth is OIT?
OIT stands for Oral Immunotherapy, a treatment that teaches your body not to react to its allergens.
-
Under medical supervision, patients are given small amounts of the food they are allergic to. These “doses” gradually increase in size until the patient is able to eat the food without reacting.
-
OIT can treat most of the top 9 food allergens, plus a few others. Always check with your allergist to see what foods they treat.
-
Most likely! OIT has about an 85% success rate. Toddlers to adults with varying IGE levels have gone through OIT with great success.
-
OIT should only be performed by a board certified allergist. Ask your local allergist if they perform OIT or visit the FAST website to find a provider near you.
